In December 2024, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu set October 2026 as the deadline to complete the Polavaram multipurpose project, with June 2026 targets for components such as the ECRF Gap-2 and approach channel works and for land acquisition, according to Deccan Herald. In March 2026 he said completion was targeted before the next Godavari Pushkarams (PTI). On 2 September 2026 water was released towards North Andhra through the project's Left Main Canal, and PTI described the full project's completion as still to come.
